About Tinninben
Animation
Tinninben Animation Studio is a division of Tagman Media Inc. Tinninben Animation focuses on the development of cartoon animated products for public education, behaviour change interventions and children’s education.
We, Tinninben Animation, are storytellers. We are among the inheritors of the great storytelling traditions of West Africa brought to this region of the world by enslaved Africans. The history, crafts, and culture of a people were preserved in storytelling, and by the same means a new generation was educated. In Guyana, at the end of a story, the storyteller would say “and the tinnin ben(d) and the story end.” An aluminum can, like those that contain food products, was called a “tinnin” we are not sure what is the connection between the “tinnin” and the end of the story but being faithful to the storytelling tradition we inherited we celebrate the end of a good story in our name.
The list of products includes a 6-episode series and Music Video, Quintin Quarantine Quartet, produced for the Ministry of Health with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
A new episode was released every two weeks, which is record time, as we worked to remain relevant to the Covid-19 information that was current at the time of the release of each episode.
Another series, an 8-episode production, “Jungle Feevah” and “Lil Mosquito Big Problem” Music Video, were produced for the Ministry of Health, Breakthrough Action Guyana and the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communications Programs (CCP). Jungle Feevah focused on miners and residents of Regions 1, 7 & 8. The overall programme focuses on Malaria prevention but included education on Covid-19 as the pandemic worsened.
